Ystävänpäivä
Today is Ystävänpäivä, or Friend’s Day, in Finland. Rather than a day dedicated to romance, it celebrates friendships. Most Finns will dedicate a part of the day for coffee, lunch or dinner dates with close friends. Fun activities like skating, skiing, and sledding are also popular.
Friends are such an important part of our lives and stories. Many of us have lifelong friends that see us through all the stages of our lives, sharing the momentous times but also the every day trials and tribulations.
Finnish love, as with friendships, is often quiet, but no less resonant, strong, and deep.
Valentine’s Day is the second-biggest season for cards in Finland, according to their Postal Service. Most of the Ystävänpäivä cards are sent by women to their dearest friends.
