The choices we make

Choices take us down many different roads in life. The majority of choices we make ourselves but some, inevitably, are made for us and those can be the toughest ones to face.

Still, we always have the choice of how we react to any situation or challenge that is presented to us. The way we feel and react is ours and ours alone. No one can take that choice from us. Ever.

Everyone on this planet has a different story of how we arrived at our current address and who is in our circle of family and friends. Some of those choices were made for us including our birth parents and genetics, while others, like who we partner with, our vocation, if we bear children, and where we live are decisions we make as individuals. Those of us with the autonomy to make decisions of our own volition are the most fortunate.

As we move through these days of change, let us respect everyone’s choices and origins, even if they don’t match our own. The world is not black and white, but has many shades and nuances, views, and beliefs. None are superior to any other. None.

Of all the choices, empathy and kindness are always the right ones.
