Eat a food that delights you

We all have them. Certain foods remind us of our childhoods. For me it’s a root beer float.

When I was a kid a special treat was going to the A&W drive-in, which to me had the most divine of creations: the root beer float. The tasty root beer topped with a couple scoops of vanilla ice cream to get the beautiful fizz and froth was heavenly.

Recently on an outing with friends, I was overjoyed to see a root beer float on the menu and amused everyone by ordering a second after I quickly downed the first! It was one of the best days of summer and brought me back to those times with the family at the drive-in.

Strawberry ice cream is another favorite. Not the artificially flavored neon variety but the kind with real fresh strawberries and a thick, chunky, rich consistency. Ice cream cones are a treat for many, including special toppings like rainbow-colored sprinkles.

My hometown used to have a soft-serve ice cream place that was a favorite stop on trips to and from town. The half-and-half cone (half chocolate & half vanilla) was always fun, especially for those who had trouble picking a flavor!

At the holidays, the frosted sugar cookies are a perennial favorite. My penguin cookie cutter has been well used over the years. This happy shape is also the perfect size cookie — not too large or too small.

At least once a year, eat a food that delights you.
