Friendly faces at the farmers’ market
Some of the many pleasures of summer in the Upper Peninsula are the local farmers’ markets. I frequent the one in Chassell and appreciate all the vendors and variety. The market offers delicious home-cooked breads, sweets, and jams and jellies, the freshest of vegetables and eggs, plants and flowers galore, plus artists specializing in everything from photography and watercolors to knitting and soap making.
Everyone is proud of their wares and eager to share them and strike up a conversation. Knowing things are made locally is refreshing and it makes you feel good to support your neighbors’ endeavors. I’m constantly inspired by their motivation, entrepreneurial spirit, and love of the Keweenaw and all the beauty and bounty it offers.
If you could use some fresh produce, some original art, or just a friendly face to brighten your day, check out one of the local farmers’ markets in the Keweenaw. Admission and smiles are always free 😁
