Centering thoughts

As my work season begins at the cabins, I am reminded of some favorite quotes that I have tacked up above my desk and often think about to get me centered and focused on the tasks at hand.

Where focus goes, energy flows.

The cabin season and all the manual labor it brings is always a welcome break from my other life spent in front of a computer screen and keyboard. Both are equally fulfilling for me and the balance of doing both (and more) has brought me immense joy and gratitude.

There is a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in.

No one can do it alone. Back in college I was in a coed fraternity and one of our mantras was the need to “share the burden.” That’s what makes an organization, business or any type of effort strong. Finns can be stubborn but we all need help and should stay open to asking for and accepting it.

To be broken is no reason to see all things as broken.

So often when we go through a tough time in our life, perhaps a health struggle or the death of a family member, it’s important to focus on new goals and projects to remind ourselves that there is still beauty in the world and life will continue to move on. This statement always reminds me of that.

Pain pushes until the vision pulls.

I think we all have the ability to be a leader, even if it’s just shining a light of optimism so others can follow it.

There is always light. If only we’re brave enough to see it. If only we’re brave enough to be it.

When the world is making your head spin, just take a breath and hold tight. Tomorrow is another day.
