Love is in the air

It’s that time of year when hearts are exploding all around us, especially on our social media feeds and in the aisles of most stores.

The origins of Valentine’s Day are murky with many references to the celebration of Saint Valentine marking the beginning of spring. The celebration is not known to have had any romantic connotations until Chaucer’s poetry about "Valentine's Day" in the 14th century. In the Parliament of Fowls, Chaucer writes about a dream vision where birds choose their mates.

We’ve all heard the English poem Roses are red, violets are blue… which originated in the 1700s and seemed to spur the custom of sending fancy paper Valentine cards in February each year, often made with real lace and ribbons. In the 19th and 20th centuries, red roses and chocolates became popular romantic gestures.

I rather like Valentine’s Day just because it’s a celebration of love. And the expression of love really should not be limited to your husband/wife or partner but to anyone who you care about and brings joy to your life. What can be better than celebrating that?

Now, sing along with John Paul Young… 🎵🎶 Love Is In the Air 🎶🎵…and share the love on Feb. 14.
