A toast to t-shirts

T-shirts are part of my uniform in the summer months. Some of my favorite local designs are shown below including Karvakko’s Market, the Calumet Colosseum, and, of course, Finnish culture and saunas.

Traditionally a male undergarment, the t-shirt is named after the T shape of its body and sleeves. Typically made of cotton or a cotton/polyester blend, t-shirts are cool, comfortable, generally inexpensive, and easy to pack and wash & wear. To me, t-shirts are one of our most practical garments, and fun, too, with so many choices of colors, styles, and designs.

By the 1930s, the T-shirt was often worn by men and boys when doing farm or ranch chores. The shirts became even more popular in the 1950s after Marlon Brando sported one in A Streetcar Named Desire, finally achieving status as fashionable, stand-alone, outerwear garments.

Today, more than 2 billion t-shirts are sold annually in the United States! T-shirts are often used to make a social statement, promote a company logo or travel destination, or just share a beautiful design with the world.

If you’re a t-shirt aficionado like me, I hope you’ll add a Manninen’s Cabins t-shirt to your collection. You can order online at www.bonfire.com/store/manninens-cabins
