Sounds at the cabins
There are certain sounds we have come to know and love at the cabins.
🫶 the gentle slam of the screen doors as they reverberate on the spring — once, twice, three times
🫶 the tinkling of the poplar leaves as they wave gently in the breeze
🫶 the drumming (beating wings) of the ruffed grouse as they mate in the spring; this sound is very unique and almost sounds like a sputtering engine
🫶 the soothing pattering of rain on the metal and nickel roofs
🫶 the rubbing of the rope and clank of the boat anchors as they are raised from the cool waters
🫶 the chattering of the eagles and gulls overhead, and the haunting singing of the loons
🫶 the squeak of the old wood oars in the oar locks, and the hum of a well-tuned boat motor traversing the lake
It is so gratifying to hear people talk about these sounds that have stayed with them through the years even if they visited the cabins as a child.
