Kaksi

Kaksi, #2 in Finnish, is the oldest cabin built onsite. Kaksi has a unique floorplan, as do all of Manninen’s Cabins. No two are the same!

Some of the fun features in Kaksi include a stunning set of deer antlers mounted above a slate-topped fieldstone fireplace. The antlers date back to the early 1900s and are non-typical, a rack that has a different number of points on each side or tines that grow off another tine instead of the existing beam of the rack.

If you look closely at the polished log walls in the main living area you’ll also see the brass hardware still in place from the oil lamps that previously lit the cabin.

Another stunning feature is the lake-facing front door, which includes a wrought iron latch system.

All these features are original to the late 1920s when this cabin was carefully planned and built onsite. The logs for Kaksi (and cabins 3-7) were cut from the Manninen property, planed on the family sawmill, and ax-hewn by strong Finnish hands. Hefty log benches built by my grandparents are still used in Kaksi.
